Meet the founder
The essence of kanso
I’m Tomas Solin, founder of Kanso Sports, and for the last 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to leading five different sports brands, specializing in footwear development across a broad spectrum of sports. My approach extends beyond products; it encompasses an understanding of movement dynamics, running form, and how these elements minimize injury risks while maximizing performance. As an active participant in various indoor and racquet sports, my passion for shoes and their impact runs deep.
So, why Kanso? When I envisioned a new performance footwear brand, it had to reflect my identity and inspirations. Through extensive travels and collaborations with footwear manufacturers in Asia, I developed a profound appreciation for Japanese design principles - craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and cultural purity. Kanso, meaning "purity" or "simplicity," is rooted in the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic and design philosophy. This perspective beautifully merges with my Swedish background, where functionality seamlessly integrates with aesthetics - the essence of Scandinavian design.
Kanso was born in 2019, but it wasn’t until December 2023 that I, alongside an investor, secured the means necessary for the tooling investments vital to footwear development. In 2025, we strengthened our key team with my long-time business partner of over 20 years, Thomas Nord, as head of design.

With over 15 years in footwear development, We’ve learned that racket and indoor court shoes must excel in managing complex movements - balancing acceleration, deceleration and the reduction of injury risks. Most professional coaches agree: “The best mover is often the best player on the court – no matter the sport.” This belief underscores the essential role of movement in performance.
To ensure successful footwear development, we focus on three critical areas:

A deep understanding of sport-specific movements is essential. We collaborate closely with scientists in biomechanics and motion science during the early development phases of every project.

The excellence of our footwear is profoundly influenced by the expertise of our manufacturing partners. Only a select few factories possess the skills to deliver top-tier quality.
